Rochester Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra
    • June 14, 2007 - Sweet and Sour (Filed under: Jazz Fest — Jann Nyffeler @ 3:35 am) You’re never going to believe this. Are you sitting down? I loved the Rochester Metro Jazz Orchestra. In their early evening set Tuesday in the Big Tent, they were huge and solid. Their sound was big, brassy and comforting. They were tight and ON, and they played with lots of energy and enthusiasm. A little Monk, a little Mangione … it was good-to-be-alive music. As with most combos like this, there were solos all around, but the standout was vocalist Maggie Mullen. She has a sweet and powerful voice, and she’s easy to understand and fun to listen to. If you missed them Tuesday, keep an ear out for their upcoming gigs in Canandaigua, Fairport and Perinton this summer.

    • November 1, 2007 - My wife and I were at the Roger Robach Center Wednesday evening and after listening and dancing to the great Tom Monti and the Al Bruno Trio we were going to stay for a little while as we had never seen the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra. We could not believe what we were seeing and listening too. The 30's and 40's were in that room. You are truly a big band of the past. The Director Mr. Ron Bowks was excellent and sincere. Ms. Maggie Mullen did a great job. The orchestra was made up of fine musicians.
