JOSE R. RODRIGUEZ (Percussion - Congas and Bongos). Jose joined the Rochester Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra in the summer of 2009 adding a Latin flavor to the orchestra's already unique and contemporary jazz sound. Jose has performed with numerous bands and combos locally and abroad including Calle Uno as well as his own eight-piece Latin combo Son-Bori where he plays trumpet. Jose is originally from Chicago and studied music briefly in New Jersey. He arrived in Rochester, New York in 1982. Jose has been playing music since age 16 when he began playing Gospel music at his father's church. While playing Gospel music, he developed an interest in the Latin as well as Jazz genre and turned it into a long-term hobby. Jose very much enjoys being involved with a band that promotes great music, character, and diversity. During the day, Jose's career gig is with Huther Doyle where we works as an addiction councilor.
